When Dentures Will Work

By Max Lincon

Everyone wants to have a dazzling smile. More importantly most would like that smile to consist of their own teeth. You know, the ones that Mother Nature provided you with. Sadly, time and circumstances may have other plans. When tooth loss becomes inevitable people still want to have pearly whites even if they are man made. That is where dentures come in.

When the realization occurs that dental issues are present it will not really matter what the reason for them is. It will still mean the loss of teeth. It may be a side effect of medications that are being taken for other health issues. Some are never properly informed about how to take care of their teeth. Others have the knowledge but, for whatever reason, have not made it a priority in their lives and are now paying the price. So the need for false teeth can be the outcome of many different events or several of them combined.

Missing teeth create an entirely new set of issues. Of course the first thing most folks think of is how they look. This is a concern as it can harm an individuals self esteem and their perception of themselves. The greater worry lies in difficulties eating and in the potential for bone loss eventually leading to the loss of more teeth.

Dental implants, partial dentures and full dentures represent some of the options available that one can gather information about. Every persons is different though and what will work for one may not for another for multiple reasons. It is a good idea to make an appointment with your dentist just for the purposes of discussing things and gather more information.

If there are only a couple of teeth that are missing and there are healthy viable teeth surrounding the area then a partial may be the right choice. As implied this consists of a few false teeth hooked onto some form of wire or metal. The apparatus then attaches to teeth that are already there to hold them in the correct position.

The Conventional Full Denture may be necessary when all of the upper or lower teeth are missing. Sometimes if there are not enough teeth to support a partial then the remaining ones will be removed to accommodate an immediate full denture. If this involves the upper teeth you may find that your ability to taste foods may be impaired. Uppers are much easier to fit to the contours of your mouth than lowers.

Implants are a newer technology and much more costly than any of the other alternatives. This involves cutting of the gum and drilling into the bone itself. Then a metal post is positioned within and an artificial tooth is attached to the post. Once this procedure is complete though there is not much more upkeep involved than there is with a normal tooth.

Dentures will help you to have the smile that you want and to feel confident in your appearance and abilities. Making sure that you are well informed is half the battle in obtaining the results that you want. There is always a positive and a negative side to anything so this will aid in making the right decision for you.
