Alleviate Muscle Pain With Drug-Free Remedies

By Nolan Berrie

If you are an athlete, then two things about you are probably true. One, you care about your body and what you put into it. Two, from time to time you suffer from muscle aches and strains. Here are some natural, healthy ways to alleviate pain and avoid using medicines and medicated creams.

If you are suffering from muscle tenderness, soreness or pain, you shouldn't necessarily stop all activity. In fact, some light movement can lessen the pain by getting blood flowing to the muscles. This blood flow actually will help the muscles recover. So even if you spend most of your day working at a desk, get up and move around every hour or so and you will find that your muscles won't become dry and stiff.

Also, never underestimate the power of water. Experts are constantly telling us to drink more water to keep our bodies healthy, and water also can help sore muscles. Sore muscles are typically dehydrated to begin with, and if you deprive your body of the water it needs, they just get worse because your blood will begin to take water from your cells and tissues to keep it moving. So don't forget to hydrate those sore muscles!

One easy way to alleviate pain without painkillers is to apply a cold pack to the sore muscles. Cold begins eliminating pain on contact, and pills take awhile to work, so why not try a cold pack before using medications? To make your own cold pack, wet a thick washcloth, wring it out, fold it up, place in a sealable baggie and freeze it. Keep a couple of these baggies on hand and you will never have to wait for some cold relief.

If you are still hoping to work out, try using a physiological hybrid shape, such as the one created by RapidForce. These adhesives target a specific muscle group, such as a sore upper or lower back or your shoulders or knees. The shapes use a medical-grade adhesive and won't come off, even when you are moving around.

The physio hybrid shape supports the sore muscles by drawing strength from nearby muscle groups. Many athletes report that these special shapes allow them to continue exercising virtually free from pain. This is beneficial for that sore muscle because by continuing to move the muscle, blood will flow to the area and the sore muscle will heal more quickly.
