Finding Out If Nickel Causes Hair Loss

By Janine Hughes

In chemistry, it is defined as a metallic element which is hard and silvery white. Nickel is said to cause hair loss. This is normally a symptom of metal toxicity. However, hair loss occurs frequently among a number of people. There could be many reasons for this. Medical testing of hair is the only way to make sure that metal toxicity is the cause of loss. It is true that nickel causes hair loss, and the below information supports.

Toxic metals occur in large numbers. Metals range in terms of their type. There are those that are referred to as heavy metals. They normally occur often and aluminum and arsenic are examples of them. Metals that are not considered as heavy could also fall under the toxic category. Here we can find examples like nickel which affect the body in different ways.

Different sites have different things to say when it comes to this issue. Others do not consider hair loss as a symptom of this problem. However this metallic element causes a number of problems for some people. Rashes and burning sensations can be observed. The skin of an individual may also slightly change color to show irritation.

There are other signs than the above that point to this problem. Depending on the period of exposure irritation will be noted. The appearance of the skin at the point of contact will also have a different appearance. It may lack its smooth look and eventually form blisters. If this condition worsens, the manner in which the skin will look may be quite alarming.

There a number of medical tests that can be done to determine your problem. Your medical practitioner may ask you if you have been in contact with any type of metal. Your doctor can also notice the allergy you may have by just looking at your skin. There is the patch test where patches that contain allergens are placed on the skin of the patient for a while.

You can prevent allergies to this metal. Obviously prevention is always better than cure. It is important to avoid items that contain it as a component. If you already have an allergy it is also good to avoid contact to this metal. There are home test kits that can be used to check for it. Avoiding nickel is hard as it is present in so many products.

If you already are dealing with this problem, there are a number of things that you could be using. First, there are special lotions that are meant to improve the condition of your skin. There those that specifically just sooth the skin. Avoid using any type of ointment that looks beneficial. Not all of them are suitable for this kind of problem.

Though there is no definitive evidence that mentions hair loss as an effect of metal sensitivity, this idea should not be put aside. Some patients have noticed that the reduction in the amount of hair is caused by the presence of certain metals. When they avoid them some improvements are noticed. Major hair loss might as well be a symptom of a much progressed problem.
