Prince Charles & The Fruitless Endeavor Of Farming Organically

By Rob Sutter

One would think that anything that was run by Prince Charles would be a runaway success, right? After all, this is someone who has a tremendously high standing in Wales, meaning that he seemingly has enough money to go about any kind of endeavor. However, it seems as though - for one reason or another - he's not able to do everything well. One of such endeavors, which I was actually hoping would see a good degree of success, would be farming organically.

An article on TIME.com recently talked about how Prince Charles of Wales had to put an end to his endeavor of farming organically. There were a few reasons for this, one of them being the crops as they started to raise too highly in pricing. In addition, the trade fell tremendously, even though he was able to grow the aforementioned crops on a prime estate known as Duchy Home Farm. Regardless, this effort did not go the way Charles wanted, as authorities such as Colle Farmers Market could tell you.

One has to consider how the state of the government is and the U.K. did not see much in the way of growth. The article said that there was a financial crisis that struck the area back in 2008 and I think it's safe to say that it didn't fully recover from it. While there might have been spurts of growth here and there, there was nothing that could be declared huge successes. It's unfortunate but it's clear that rates are exceptionally better when fewer crises of this nature are had.

I think that stores have the ability to attain profits but they have to be seen thanks to the correct usage of merchandise. Crops have to be priced in the right way or else people are not going to invest in them as readily as they might have been able to if the situation existed. Money is an important point for many people these days since budgets seem to be exceptionally tight. People have to support themselves and their loved ones, meaning that costs have to be taken into consideration.

Prince Charles seemingly took a chance when it came to farming organically, as noble as it might have been. The sad thing about this story is that the farm had a lot of potential to grow and, if operated differently, it could have been something that those in the U.K. could have utilized. As it stood, though, the rates were simply too high and people had other responsibilities to attend to. If anything could have helped the farm, it's clear that it would have been better pricing.
