Sick On The Orient Express

By Rey Vetangelo

Once, an inquisitive westerner boarded a train: the Orient Express. This individual had grown up in Scotland, a little while north of Glenn Coe. His family was very wealthy. He was a baby fed with a silver spoon. As a child, his leisure time was spent roaming the moors with his best friend James, who lived across the way at Skyfall.

First, there are intramurals. If you are not an official college athlete, that's ok. You can still play your favorite sports in intramurals. These are club-like groups organized into divisions and tournaments by the college. You can feel the rush of competition while avoiding the stresses and pressures of professional competitive sports. This is also a great way to have fun, meet new people, and become closer with the friends you already have.

Second, don't forget about all your student benefits. Almost all colleges offer free access to the college gyms, tracks, pools, and courts. Open play is a great time to gather some friends and hit the courts. You can rent (sometimes free, sometimes for a small fee) balls, rackets, towels and lockers.

You can play basketball, racquetball, volleyball, water polo, soccer, tennis, etc. If you prefer working out alone, you can go to the gym, the track, or the pool. Anywhere else, you would pay a hefty fee for access to so many facilities. Enjoy the amazing benefits your school has to offer for free!

After making sure that their health insurance plans are up to date and that they will be able to cover any needful medical bills stemming from an accident on the slopes, a skier or snowboarding will then be able to make other needful preparations and keep other needful safety tips in mind as they are enjoying the ski season this year. And one of the first safety tips for skiers and snowboarders is to be in good physical shape.

Unfortunately, the combination of his excitement and his nighttime wanderings proved a bit stronger than his health. He developed a cold that developed into a serious illness. At a brief stop in Mongolia, he staggered out of the train in hopes that the fresh, oriental air would do him good. An old, withered woman who had watched him collapse on a train station bench approached him, offering him an herbal tea.

The young man's curiosity overcame his scruples of taking unknown foreign remedies and he cautiously sipped the brew. Within minutes, he was sitting up strait, wiping away the cold sweat from his face. It was incredible. These leaves had worked a miracle that none of his western medicines could.

Physical exercise not only improves the body but also the mind. No matter how busy you are, taking time to take care of your body will give you the extra physical energy, mental clarity, and simple sanity required to handle college life.

So even though you pay for college student health insurance, you don't want to have to frequent the doctor's office. By keeping your body strong and healthy, you'll feel good both physically and emotionally, you'll learn better, be happier, and your overall quality of life will improve.
