New York Urgent Care Facilities Provides You With A Better Option Than Emergency Rooms

By Sharron Cantu

Urgent care applies to anyone suffering from injuries or conditions that need to be treated right away, or else the symptoms may worsen. If you fall into this category and require assistance, visit a New York urgent care facility. If the injury isn't outright incredibly serious yet time-sensitive, this is the best option for you.

Say you fell down and hurt your arm, but you're not sure whether you've broken it or merely sprained it. If it is broken and you don't get it treated right away, you could do even more damage to your arm. However, emergency rooms are expensive, and getting an appointment with you doctor could take days. You should visit a walk-in clinic center nearby for affordable, quick care.

These clinics or centers are the perfect medium between an emergency room and a general physician. It's great for minor emergencies, and are available for way longer hours than your regular doctor's office. It's also quite easy to just walk in and get quick care if you need.

There are two categories of these walk-in clinic centers listed by the Urgent Care Association of America. Category 1 needs at least one licensed doctor on the premises at all times. Category 2 requires either a doctor or licensed nurse practitioner for the entire time. In any case, a doctor has to be the director and oversee the entire operation of the center.

Some category of walk-in clinic centers will specify certain hours where they will only take pediatric patients. Otherwise, they should accept patients of all ages. All centers are required to have patient restrooms, two exam rooms, and a waiting room. Additionally, they need to be open every day for at least four hours every day, leading up to three thousand hours a year. If the center isn't regulated as it is supposed to, this rule can be waived if it is within five miles of a proper one.

All doctors and practitioners in the center must be able to perform minor procedures. They must also be able to use IVs and have the ability to utilize the proper equipment available. This equipment can be X-rays, phlebotomy services, automated defibrillators, drug carts, oxygen, and of course the phones.

If you were to choose to visit an emergency room, you may have to wait in line or hours before you can be seen if your injuries aren't life threatening. Either that, or you need to wait for your doctor to open his office for an appointment. In both scenarios, you would need to wait quite a while to be seen when you could easily be seen by a perfectly qualified practitioner at this category of walk-in clinic center.

You can walk into urgent care centers at odd hours without an appointment, and be seen within half an hour of walking in. You can use your insurance if you'd like, and the care there is quite affordable. Because these centers aren't as crowded, you will probably get great focused care.
