Learning About Osteoarthritis

By Chet Sandeksi

If you are an older individual living with osteoarthritis, life can sometimes seem extremely difficult. Activities that you could once do with ease are now surprisingly difficult, and your mobility is greatly reduced.

The full name of this disease that is related to arthritis that appears in children is called juvenile idiopathic arthritis. There are several different types of diseases that full under the category of arthritis-related juvenile diseases.

These symptoms tend to show up symmetrically across your body as well. When you notice a nodule on your left thumb knuckle, you will likely notice a similar one in the right thumb knuckle.

Studies have shown that about 1 in 5 children suffer from arthritis, but it is often a very mild form of the disease. Still, arthritis can limit many children from being as active as they would like to be.

Stress hurts immunity. Stress often affects the elderly when they have to care for people suffering from various diseases. Among the most stressful to care for is Alzheimer's. Caregivers have to explain the same situation over and over again, knowing that the situation is only going to grow worse.

If you are currently living with osteoarthritis, you may feel frustrated and even scared. You probably do not have as much mobility as you used to, and you are not able to move around as quickly or as often as you would like.

Living with osteoarthritis is often difficult, and sadly, the condition usually does not get better. What people with osteoarthritis say, however, is that if they change their perspective on their disease, they have a much easier time dealing with the pain, stress, and adverse effects.

Regular exercise is an excellent deterrent for stress. Exercise pumps endorphins into the pleasure centers of your brain. It is known to improve moods and help you feel good. What better way to fight stress than an improved mood?

Yet another arthritis-related disease that occurs in children is called Kawasaki disease. Kawasaki disease is particularly debilitating because it is usually followed by heart problems.

Garlic is known as an immune system booster. It stimulates the production of white blood cells (which carry antibodies to the point of attack) and helps increase the productivity of antibodies.

Effusion is presence of too much fluid around a joint, usually around the knee. Effusion results in swelling of the kneecap and much pain.

Another scary thing about Kawasaki disease is that many children experience inflammation of the blood vessels, which can lead to serious heart problems later in life.

The Hofmann Institute is an orthopedic clinic in Salt Lake. Rheumatoid arthritis is a debilitating that disease that could likely be avoided just by careful dieting and exercise.

Dr. Hofmann is trained in the symptom recognition and treatment for arthritis and arthritis-related diseases. He can help you and your family get the help that you need.
